Why Washington Apples?
The instant the warm, summer sun goes down in the apple-growing region of Washington State, the air turns crisp and cold. Our area is known for its long growing season with hot days and cool nights, low rainfall yet abundant irrigation, and fertile volcanic soil. These desert-like conditions give Washington growers like us the finest apples in the world!
In fact, it’s our climate that puts a little pink blush on many of our Grannies – a clue to superior internal quality.
Washington Granny Smiths, along with America’s favorites, Washington Red and Golden Delicious, carry on that tradition with a unique mark of distinction.
Consumers consistently give Washington apples higher quality marks than those from anywhere else.
Pears…did you know?
Of over 3,000 known pear varieties in the world, only a few are grown for commercial production, and those varieties differ throughout the world. USA Pears, which are those from Oregon and Washington, are the varieties that grow best in the Northwest, where ideal growing conditions exist.
Why Do The Best Pears Grow in the Northwest?
The Pacific Northwest, the states of Oregon and Washington, are home to some of the nation’s most productive farmlands, where crops of many types, like cherries, wheat, grapes, onions, apples, mint, and of course, pears, are grown. To grow the best pears, an optimum combination of soil, moisture, and climate conditions must be present. All of these conditions are found in four pear growing regions in the Northwest
